Welcome to Grin and Barrett

Hello and welcome to my blog! 

As my first post I thought I'd introduce myself...

Me:
My name is Barrett and I live in Raleigh, NC. I am currently a junior at UNC Chapel Hill and will be applying for the nursing school this fall. I'm a member of Alpha Chi Omega, and am living in the sorority's annex with three other girls. I love hanging out with my family and friends, going to the beach, movies, board games, books, cooking/baking, a bit of exercise (trying to be honest yet hopeful), watching TV and Netflix, and many other things that will probably come up in later posts. If you're interested in fashion, my style is more southern-prep with occasional bits of trendy or casual pieces.

Family:
I have two older sisters. The oldest is Brittany, who has been married since October 29, 2016. Brooke, the middle sister, is engaged and will wed in May 2018. I have two golden doodles, Charlie and Lola, and a cat named Mr. Bubbles. I call my parents Momason and Padre, for no reason other than one day I started saying them and now they have stuck. The brother-in-law is Brandon, and Brooke's fiancé is Eric. 
Also, we have a house down at Ocean Isle Beach, and we go as often as we are able to!

More Me, More Random:
I drive a Jeep liberty, which I love, and have a solar powered dancing bumblebee in the cup holder. I named him Snoop Honey-Buzz (the bumblebee, not the car). 
I've traveled to London, Paris, and various cities in Italy. 
I just had ACL surgery in March. I'm still going to PT, but am pretty far along in my recovery. 
I read mostly sci-fi/fanstasy/epic books, such as Game of Thrones, Malazan Books of the Fallen, Kate Daniels, October Daye, the Kingkiller Chronicles, the Sword of Truth series, etc. But, I have also read Gone Girl, Lessons from Madame Chic, and various other things. and cookbooks. 
My TV preferences range from the bachelor/bachelorette, Foodnetwork (in general), Bravo, So You Think You can Dance, Game of Thrones, and the occasional Wheel of Fortune.


If you actually read all of that, I applaud you. The main point I wanted you to take away is I like a lot of random things, and my blog may end up a tad bit random too.

So, this blog is going to be a smidge of all of me. I plan to talk about my style and clothes/accessories a bit, along with my life at school and with the fam, the time I waste on Pinterest, what I cook and bake, and whatever else I can think of.   :)

Summer Recap

It's official, summer has ended for me. I just moved back to school Wednesday, and though I love being back and seeing all of my friends again, I already miss my doodles and waking up to drink coffee with Momason in the mornings.  Since I have some down-time today, I thought I'd go ahead and post a general summer overview. I may go back and talk about certain things in more detail later on, but for now here's a glimpse. I started babysitting this little dumpling named Will. He's 6 months, and super smiley and happy. It was fun to hang out with Will and watch him bounce and wrinkle his face up when the applesauce was still a bit cold from the fridge! My parents and I also went to Paris for a long weekend! It was kind of spur of the moment, and I'm very glad we had the opportunity to visit. We stayed on Rue St. Michelle in the 5th Arrondissement.   This was along the bridge from Ile de la Cite (island with Notre Dame) to Ile Saint-Louis....

Christmas Break

It's always sad to see the Christmas season come to an end. This year it seemed as though it flew right by, and I didn't have time to fully appreciate it. Normally I stay at home all break and hang out with my family, but this year my parents and I took a trip to New York after my finals. It was my first time experiencing NY around Christmas, and it really is magical to be there. I won't lie, it was very cold there...I would've liked it to be a tad warmer...Say, maybe above freezing... But anywho, it ended up being worth it, because while we were there it also SNOWED! It was so beautiful to see it coming down in times square, and walking through a white Central Park really gives you the holiday spirit.    We went to LIVE with Kelly and Ryan , which was interesting to see. Everything is so different when you have the perspective of sitting in the audience rather than watching at home. In my head the set always seemed much larger, but in actuality it is a bit smal...

New Beginnings

For at least the past four years of my life I have told myself that "this is the year I'm going to start blogging". Well, that year has finally come.  As a senior(-ish) in college (will follow up in a post later on about that) it is finally time for me to put on my big girl panties and actually follow through with my plans. It's a new year, and although I'm not a "new me" I am definitely an improved one...or aspiring to be.. semantics, really.  To warn you all: it's going to be a rough start, and it will most definitely continue to have this style/ "feel" of writing. Hopefully I will post semi-regularly :)    This blog will be about my life-what I like, what I'm doing, what I'm wearing..eating...watching...etc.  Thanks for reading!
